岁月的另一张脸-Another face of time

Exams are finally over for the time being. I am counting down each day to the completion of my Masters Course. Back to office was as hectic as usual, and probably i should be recharged from a long 'leave' from office. Was sort of overwhelmed by the amount of work ahead of us for the next year until 2010, as I was planning the schedule and allocation of our resources for the various tasks. I am doing my best to be optimistic about it and accepting and coming to terms with the situation, at least I should be thankful that the team should not be worried to lose any of the ricebowl in view of how tight we are at least for the next 2 yrs probably, and to look at it literally, it's looking at the other side of the coin, or the other face of time in its literal translation from mandarin to english, as posted in the lyrics.

The song is truly a good piece by the famous writer/ composer. I wish i could write like him though...lol, but quite impossible....I do appreciate the person who put up the video to make the effort to put in slideshows of the oldern days of Singapore in terms of demographics and architecture. Do enjoy the song and slideshow.

Now to something relaxing. The contents in the email forwarded to me by xy had almost caused me to choke on quite a few occasions. about why chinese should not adopt christian names. Just check out the contents that's how it goes:

Why Chinese shouldn't have Christian names?

Confusing Chinese Names

Caller :
Hello, can I speak to Annie Wan (anyone)?

Operator : Yes, you can speak to me.

Caller :!
No, I want to speak to Annie Wan (anyone)!

Operator :
You are talking to someone! Who is this?

Caller :
I'm Sam Wan (Someone). And I need to talk to Annie Wan (anyone)! It's urgent.

Operator :
I know you are someone and you want to talk to anyone! But what's this urgent matter about?

Caller :
Well... just tell my sister Annie Wan (anyone) that our brother Noel Wan (no one)has involved in an accident. Noel Wan (no one)got injured and now Noel Wan (no one) is being sent to the hospital. Right now, Avery Wan (everyone) is on his way to the hospital.

Operator :
Look if no one was injured and no one was sent to the hospital, then the accident isn't an urgent matter! You may find this hilarious but I don't have time for this!

Caller :
You are so rude! Who are you?

Operator :
I'm Saw Lee (Sorry).

Caller :
Yes! You should be sorry. Now give me your name!!!

This is hilarious

Why Chinese shouldn't have Christian names:

Anne Chang => Dirty (Mandarin)
Anne Chin ! => Keep Quiet (Mandarin)
Faye Chen => Dusty (Mandarin)
Carl Cheng => Buttock (Hokkien)
Monica Cheng => Touching your buttocks (Hokkien)
Lucy Leow => You are dead (Hokkien)
Jane Tan => Frying eggs (Mandarin)
Suzie
Leow => Lose till death (Hokkien)
Henry Mah => Hate your mum (Mandarin)
Corrine Tai => Poor fellow (Hokkien)
Paul Chan => Bankrupt (Mandarin)
Nelson Tan => Bird laying eggs (Mandarin)
Leslie Tong => Rubbish Bin (Mandarin)
Carmen Teng => Leg hair long (Hokkien)
Carmen Ang =>red leg hair
Connie Mah => Call your mother (Cantonese)
Danny See => Squeeze you to death (Hokkien)
Rosie Teng => Screws and nails (Hokkien)
Pete Tsai => Nose droppings (Hokkien)
Macy Koh => Never die before (Cantonese)

Of course ridiculing names has been a common activity since young, perhaps by almost everyone. i recall when I was an undergrad back in Uni, some of my classmates were like making fun of some surnames and the possible names which we believe no one will have such names:

1. when u haf a daughter and her surname is Tan, what must her name not be?

.

.

.

.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
1. Ise

2. Rambu

3. OrangU

Now probably u need to know some basic chinese and dialects to understand these:

If you have a son and his surname is 刘 and that he is a cantonese, what must his name not be?
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
....
.
.
.
刘志辉.....sounds absolutely normal when u pronounce in mandarin, but definitely not when u try to pronounce it in cantonese, try it for urself. i don't wish to elaborate further...

Lastly, i really could not understand why in some countries there are people whose names r called 甘理良,吴茵静,杨伟,童心莲, and one of our singapore classic drama can name its main cast 赛认娘......and many many more.......

Ok..probably have to end here.....it's up to u to think about what those names mean....lol...i dunno anything......

Perhaps i should now go and take my LAZY NAP???????lol
