Can I have your STUDENT CARD PLS??

Yes. today was the 1st time i stepped into the main campus of my parent company...after 1 yr plus of employment. Not there for work, but to use their library and to MUG!! I din wanna go back to the WORLD CLASS UNIVERSITY to study cos i'm very sure all comfortable study areas will be FULL HOUSE. So i thought i shld try my 'company's instead. There's reali some obvious disparity in the atmosphere of a polytechnic as compared to Uni. There's nothing bad, juz a plain observation. Back in uni, the library is always a quiet place, with pretty tense atmosphere cos it will always be almost, or full house, with the muggers stressing u up wif their work. At poly, what i could say abt the 1st storey is: "It's like a market". Unfamiliar with the place, it was until i asked the librarian when i found out that the 1st storey is a common discussion area. So i shifted to the top level, which is well known to be much quieter, but peace oni sustained for less than half an hr. I was surrounded by and "fish market" behind ---a grp of female students, and a grp of "poultry sellers" --- a grp of male students somehow were talking very loudly. It was until i found a 3rd holding area by a side table which i managed to settle down for ard 6-7 hrs.

I tink today's experience had also 'humoured' some of the librarians, cos apparently I was so SUAKU with the poly system that i did not know that my staff card can only be scanned from "ONE" particular side at ONE particular angle for it to be able to be detected and to gain access to the entrance, exit, or borrowing machines. That i had to bother the librarians several times. and when i showed her my staff card, the reply i got was:

Librarian: (puzzled as to why i gave her a card without the poly logo, becos the card only got my company's logo, and apparently, they dun recognize that my company belonged to the poly, so she said in disbelief as if i was trying to be funny with her)
What card is this???? CAN I HAVE YOUR STUDENT CARD PLEASE????

Me (暗爽, cos by saying that, she's implying that i can still bluff my way thru as a 19 yr old POLYTECHNIC STUDENT):
I'm a staff. You can check my records from the computer.

Taken in the library during a 'self proclaimed' 5 min break at night

The great consolations i had from today's 'adventure' was that i managed to borrow 3 very precious textbooks to revise for the module i'm studying, becos it is impossible to borrow those books back at the WORLD CLASS UNIVERSITY as they are classified under RBR materials, and in this poly, i can actually borrow a book for 6 mths as a staff!!. In addition, it was thru reading those precious text that i found out that the notes given by the Professor is simply F****** up. At least i now understand some important concepts. his notes can be thrown into the dustbin......ahem........ after the exam cos i need to refer to what was being covered in class and study for them from the textbooks i've borrowed. The professor reali tinks too highly of post grad students and expect them to know everything. But, he failed to realise one point is that, if all students were suppose to know everything and had known everything, none of us need to go thru the course, you can juz gif us our Masters or PHDs straightaway, we dun need u to teach us. As far as i'm concerned as a teacher, i always make sure i have told them the answers to all the questions in detail that i am going to test them, either by direct or indirect hinting. Anyway, I noe where is a good place to hang out if i want to revise for my exams or borrow good reference books in my remaining semesters at the WORLD CLASS UNIVERSITY.

Time for shower, and continue mugging till i wanna sleep. i finally got back the momentum to study. hope it's not too late :)

Having been to both NYP & 'WCU's libraries, I feel that your observations are very true. What I did these past semesters was to borrow books that are hard to get in WCU library from NYP library during the weekdays. Then I studied these books / my notes at WCU library during the weekend. :)

About the student card incident, NYP does have several students aged above 19. Plus, you do look young...:P
